The Nevada Gaming Control Board has rejected appeals from two gamblers seeking $12,500 in disputed casino winnings, clarifying key points about bet acceptance and game rules that affect players.
LaJarrius Hall appealed the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino’s refusal to pay $8,900 from a sports parlay wager placed in April 2025. Hall claimed the casino mistakenly added a third game to his intended two-team parlay, resulting in the bet being graded as a loss. He argued the wager should have been paid as a two-team parlay.
However, video surveillance showed Hall directed the ticket writer to input three separate bets, and he took a photo of the ticket without requesting any changes. The third game involved the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost to the Washington Nationals, causing the entire parlay to lose. This case highlights the importance for bettors to carefully review and confirm their wagers before finalizing, as casinos rely on the ticket as proof of the bet placed.
In a separate appeal, Rebeka Ranglova contested Eldorado Resort & Casino’s denial of $4,500 in blackjack winnings from November 2025. She attempted to double down after splitting a pair of 3s in a blackjack game that paid 6-5 on natural 21s. The casino’s house rules prohibited doubling down after splitting in this game variant. When Ranglova refused to continue without doubling down, the hand was declared dead and her wagers were returned.
The hearing officer noted there was no way to determine if Ranglova would have won the hand, so no winnings were owed. This case underscores how specific table rules can affect player options and outcomes, making it crucial for players to understand the rules of the game variant they are playing.
These rulings reinforce that players bear responsibility for confirming bet details and understanding game rules before wagering. Casinos are generally protected when they follow established procedures and clearly communicate rules. For players, disputes over winnings can be difficult to resolve if evidence shows they agreed to the terms or bet details.
For those at risk of gambling harm, these cases serve as a reminder to approach betting with caution and clarity to avoid costly misunderstandings. Players should always verify bet slips and ask questions about game rules before placing wagers.
Players interested in the regulatory environment can also note that the Nevada Gaming Control Board recently asked a state court to hold prediction market operator Kalshi in contempt for allegedly violating a judicial order related to sports betting offerings. This action reflects ongoing regulatory efforts to enforce compliance and protect consumers in Nevada’s gambling market. More details are available on CDC Gaming.
Additionally, regulators across the Americas are increasing efforts to combat illegal gambling markets, which can pose risks to players due to lack of oversight and consumer protections. Understanding the legal framework and playing at licensed venues remains essential for player safety. See more on regulatory developments at CDC Gaming.
