Great news for Brazilian bettors! Any of you out there?
As of 11 February, 21 new licensed operators joined the game. SPA (Secretariat of Prizes and Bets), the country’s betting regulator, gave green light to 21 more online platforms. Brazil’s gambling scene got a lot bigger, with a total number of 35 fully licensed operators.
Before that, only 14 Brazil betting operators received full licenses ahead of 1 January, when the legal betting market was launched, with another 52 companies with provisional licenses waiting for final approvals.
Those provisional licenses allowed platforms to operate as normal for 30 days (pretty short, right?), which could be extended if the operators had the right support from regulators, meaning extra time to meet some additional requirements (all the regular fuss, guys).
Now you understand that the licensing process in Brazil is not that simple for either of the sides. By the way, KTO, the popular sports betting and casino platform, was one of those 14 lucky operators to get authorization before the market’s launch.
“It was very stressful,” said Abdreas Bardun, KTO founder and CEO. “But I do have some understanding because this is something completely new for the Brazilian government.”
So it’s true there are delays surrounding certifications. But they’re slowly moving forward. Does it mean you should expect new fully licensed operators coming up? Possibly. Plus, the SPA has published a new regulation that standardizes the whole certification process.
As a matter of fact, several companies that were previously excluded (since the first round of awarded licenses) have finally received provisional authorization. Another seven operators got permission to enter the market temporarily thanks to some court orders.
No doubt, all of those legal processes put quite a delay on everything, but safety first, guys, and Brazil seems to be moving in the right direction.
Now, the best part: the new approvals feature some big bosses of the industry and international giants, such as BETANO, BETFAIR, BET365, STAKE, NOVIBET, or BETSPEED, alongside local brands like BET SUL and APOSTA GANHA.
According to authorities, all granted licenses to gambling platforms will run until 2029, with a few exceptions. Brazil is still working on all aspects of gambling licensing.
All in all, the total number of operators that can legally operate in Brazil through a full or provisional license is 69, with 34 of them running on a provisional basis. The interesting part is that all those authorized platforms have paid a license fee of BRL2.1 billion ($364.6 million).
It doesn’t go without them fees these days, right? While we’re paying those tiny transaction or tournament entry fees on their platforms, giant operators pay millions for a license. But we’re not the ones making millions, ain’t it?
After all, Brazilian bettors now have the chance to choose from 35 new, fully licensed platforms out of a total of 173 authorized brands that operate on the Brazilian market, meaning more options, more competitions, and (hopefully) exclusive promos for you.
