The Australian Communications and Media Authority has blocked 8 more illegal online gambling platforms for violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, as part of enhanced enforcement that began in 2017, which already busted over 200 illegal operators.
ACMA has recently announced its latest round of actions, according to which Internet Service Providers have to block 8 additional illegal online gambling sites. It was a total bummer for affiliate marketing websites as well, which are also going to be blocked.
After 220 illegal gambling operators have already left the Australian market, no doubt, those additional 8 sites will follow suit once ACMA has put its eyes on them. All this happens as part of a bigger trend of battling against unlicensed gambling services.
If you’re curious to know which of these sites were currently blocked, here’s a sneak peek: JokaRoom, Aura Play, AUDPokies888, Instant Casino, Rich Papa, Leon, UUSpin, and Wild Pokies. All these platforms were found to be running in violation of the earlier mentioned Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
Time to find a new site if you used to play at one of those, right? Either way, going with a licensed website is the best option. Plus, ACMA is getting really serious with its warnings about risks associated with illegal and unlicensed platforms.
Don’t take it personally. The authority is trying its best to protect users. All these actions seem to be part of a massive range of efforts to protect Australian bettors and players from unauthorized operators.
Its first blocking request was in 2019. Till now, ACMA has successfully blocked over 1K unlicensed gambling sites together with affiliate platforms.
In addition, ACMA warns all potential users that seemingly legitimate gambling services may still lack essential customer protection features, putting your funds at risk.
From the latest news, ACMA issued formal warnings to offshore operators Luster N.V. and Dama N.V. in January 2025. They were delivering unlicensed gambling services to Aussies through several platforms.
As a result, Western Australia claimed it would impose stricter gambling laws by increasing its enforcement powers and financial penalties.
By the way, ACMA has a register of licensed wagering operators for you to check for legitimate gambling services in Australia. Authorities are doing their best to protect Australian users by encouraging them to use licensed platforms and getting rid of illegal sites and their affiliates.
